Have you ever had one of those? A pattern that you can’t seem to stop thinking of…especially when all you can think of is when are you going to do it. Yeah I get those a lot. Well maybe not a lot but I do get a few, especially with old patterns. A few years ago…about 6 years to be exact, I bought this book “domiknitrix” from Borders (when it was still around). Either way all of the patterns are great but the one that stood out the most for me was “L’il Red Riding Hoodie”, I think what got me was the small detail on the elbow sleeve area or maybe just the jacket itself. Not sure but I decided to finally get myself some yarn for the pattern to get started on it soon. I couldn’t find the yarn that’s called for on the pattern but I did find this awesome yarn to substitute it with. “Berroco Vintage Chunky Yarn” from Webs, I got it in Dewberry…it’s going to look AWESOME…I hope. Go check out the pattern if your interested…it’s on Ravelry.
I think it was about a year or two ago that I came into this knitting kit in my search of knitting goods:
I fell head over heels for it and I was never able to find the maker or seller…it was crazy. So today after so long KnittingHelp posted this up on their Facebook and me being determined I did another search for this product with more information in hand and TADA…I found it. Yup! I finally ordered one and hope to get it soon. You can find them on Amazon but I had a hard time purchasing it due to territory restrictions…however I found another site that carries them and kaching! Okay, okay, I’ll shut it and share the link already :)
So it’s been a while since I’ve knitted/crocheted anything only cause I am still trying to adjust to medication and when it seems to be getting better, more medication is prescribed. So what better to keep up with my crafting addiction than yarn…yes at some point I had a closet full of yarn but with my move overseas I gave most of it away. Which I am kind of glad I did cause I wasn’t very selective before as I am now. Not sure if that is a good thing or not.
I was so use to buying corporate brands of yarns cause technically that’s all I could afford and find. Which don’t get me wrong I think it’s still great yarn and I still use for different crafts but when I was in California I found a few LYS that taught me a lot about yarn. I became obsessed with handcrafted yarn whether it was hand dyed or hand spun…that’s all I wanted…organic yarn. So now that I am living in Korea it’s been a bit of a challenge to find a LYS so my only option has been online purchases.
I recently started searching for different yarns on different online stores but never did I think of Etsy to buy yarn from….yup I know HELLO!!…I love Etsy and I shop there all the time but never did it dawn on me to buy yarn. So last night I went off searching for some yarn and I found so many beautiful crafted yarn.
*Keep in mind that I love BOLD colors and have been obsessing over socks so most of these yarn are sock weight yarns but you can find them in different weights by messaging the sellers.*
This first one is a sock yarn “My Box of Crayons Self-Striping Yarn“ gorgeous - I KNOW! Very bright and can be great for children socks or adults…even a skinny scarf. :)
This next one is a fingering yarn “Neon Lights“…I LOVE LOVE LOVE this yarn. It would go great for a pair of knee high socks. You know that whole “80’s” type of vibe.
This next one is also a fingering yarn and is by the same seller as the yarn above. This yarn is called “Peacock”, the colors are bright and well balanced. Great for a scarf, socks, or even a nice knitted cabled hat.
This next one again is a fingering yarn and same seller, it’s called “Grateful Dyed”. I just bought this one and have two great patterns for it…not sure which one I will do but I will keep you all posted.
And last but not least this beautiful yarn which I had to purchase two skeins of is a sock yarn called “UFO”. The seller hand dyes the yarns in different weights and the colors are beautiful I urge you to check out her shop at Etsy, her shop is called “Sunrise Fiber Co.” You won’t be disappointed in what you see. I will be using this yarn for these beautiful socks that PurlBee sent out in their newsletter a few days ago called “Little Cable Knee Highs”. I think they will look gorgeous in this yarn, don’t you think?
Have you ever been sooo obsessed with a pattern that you can’t just do it right away…you have to wait for the right yarn and time for it to be done? Well if so then THANK YOU! I felt weird for a moment…if not then well this explains a lot :)
Either way, I used to be subscribed to knit.1 magazine and back in 2008 they had one of my favorite sock designers on the mag Cookie A. So it’s been 4 years now and since I finally got this gorgeous yarn from Dainty Loops I decided to jump on this pattern :) It has awesome techniques all in one…twisted ribbing and cabling. I can’t wait to finish them up.
You can find the pattern on ravelry.com, the name of the pattern is “Marlene” - Check it! :)
